Raft Building

We are designing rafts so we can have raft races in the gully stream.  We are using popsicle sticks (and hot glue to keep them together).

The Marble Run

To make a Marble Run you need a  meter ruler with a long groove in it.  Put the ruler on some blocks.  Our challenge was to make the marble roll exactly three meters on the carpet.  It rolled like an apple down a slide.  If the marble rolls further than 3 meters we take off a block and try again.

Fun With Eggs

Mr Burton was crushing the egg.  It wasn't supposed to break but it did!  The yolk flew out and went SPLAT- right on top of my head!  I got a little fright. I got sad because everyone laughed at me.  I know now that they weren't laughing at me.  They were laughing because it was a surprise and a funny accident!

Eggsplosions

We got six eggs and squeezed them.  I squeezed one egg and...SPLAT! I got egg everywhere including on my jumper.  Mr B had a try and it went over Connor's hair.  He did not like it.  We were laughing, even Mr B was laughing.

The reason it didn't break was because it has yolk in it so it makes it stronger.  Maybe the curved shape makes it stronger- Perhaps next time we could use a nail!

Eggcellent Experiments

We had an egg each and we put the string around the egg to measure the egg.  Then we squeezed it and all had a go.  Then Mr Burton squeezed it.  It flew like a bird and it went on Connor's head.

Making a Siphon

You need a hose and two buckets (one bucket full of water).  You put the full bucket on a table and the other bucket on the ground.  We put the hose in the bucket full of water so the hose is completely full of water.  We covered the end of the hose with our thumb.  When we lifted the hose out of the water and took our thumb off, water poured out!

V8 Supercars

Tomorrow the whole school is going to Hamilton to watch the V8's practice.  We will see them live, racing and we will go to the pits to talk to the some V8's supercar drivers.  We can't wait to see the drivers and the new cars.  We get to see what they are like up close and we get to have a good look at the cars.  We expect to hear loud engine noises.
We have to bring our own lunch.  We can also bring some money to buy food.  Josh, Ben and Devon's favourite driver is Jamie Wincup and Adam likes Garth Tander.  Which driver do you like the best ?
We have been learning hard this term and trying hard, so our Principal has decided to reward us with this trip out of school.

We can't wait !   We will explode if we have to wait any longer.
Are you going to the V8's supercars too ?

Our Gully Hut at School - Boys Fun

Sorting it out again.
Finding it a mess.
It started with us looking for a hut.  We found a shaded place, where we didn't have to cut trees down, to make a hut in the gully.  So we asked Mr B, the teacher, for permission to go into the gully and he said "Yes".  Josh got the wood from old picnic tables and we found another picnic table in the gully, as well as shoe lockers.  It used to be a dumping ground for all the old school lockers and gear, but luckily the place we found was not a dumping ground.  It was clear and shady there.  We never had time to play in our hut because we were too busty building steps down into the gully.
Every Thursday we go for a bush walk in the gully for a treat and it's a great adventure for us boys.  When we play in the hut, we build and build our hut to make it bigger and stronger and to grow our muscles.   When we're there we don't have to eat a big lunch because we can eat the grapes and blackberries that are growing there.  They are sweet and delicious.
We talk about what we're going to do next when we're in the hut.  We also talk about boys stuff - like what we're going to do when we're older and we listen to the moaning and groaning girls.   Most of the time we find stuff to put in our hut, when we're on our bush walks.
Our 'Tarzan' vine.
Climbing the mountain of wood.
It was an old deserted hut but now its a great big area for us to have fun in.

Mushroom growing on the way down to the gully.
Having a 'meeting' in our hut.

Making Huts

Following a plan from Gail Loane's book - 'I've got something to say'.

I like making huts.  I made my hut in the kitchen.  I use old soft mattresses and woollen blankets, which go over tall, wooden stools.  I bend over to fit in the hut, using my torch to see as I read my books and play with my cars.             By Adam

I like making huts.  I made a hut in my bedroom.  I made my hut with soft mattresses and fluffy pillows.  I used chairs to hold everything up.  Ben comes along and says:
"It sucks"
"Well, your one is not any better".
"Yes it is"
"No it's not"
"Yes it is"
"Nooooo".       Ben tries to bust my hut but he doesn't.  I end up getting in trouble and Mum tells on me and sends me to my room, for punching him.

I like making huts.  I mad huts in my room.  I use two big, old, soft mattresses and four big wooden chairs.  I grab some bananas and sandwiches to eat in the hut.  I build my hut to have some fun.

Sumdog

I really like Sumdog because it doesn't even feel like you're learning.  I like the games you learn on.  The best one is bunny hop.  The other games are street race, tower climber, talent show and alien zap.  Sumdog is an online maths game- it is really cool.

2011

Two of the original six boys has left our school.   Shae went to Intermediate and Brenden went to Morrinsville Primary, so that he doesn't have to travel out to the country anymore.  Now there is only Josh, Adam, Ben and Devon left in charge of the blog.
Josh is the oldest student in the school and he is the only Year 6 here.
We have got a new principal and he is pretty cool.  So we now have a male principal and our teacher is a male.  We now have have Year 3's in our classroom, as well as Years 4 - 6.

Adam has a new motorbike and its a Suzuki 65 racing bike.  Ben has a 65 bike too.  Josh has an 85 bike.  The 65 and 85 is to do with the engine of the bike.
